Wine Filtration

IMERYS is the leading manufacturer of Perlite and Diatomaceous Earth (DE) filter aids. With nearly a century of production experience and application knowledge, it is not surprising that these products offer unparalleled flexibility and cost-effectiveness in a wide range of filtration duties. IMERYS first provided filter aids to the winemaking industry more than 50 years ago when large-scale filtration became common practice in commercial winemaking.

Overview

As part of our commitment to provide innovation into wine filtration, IMERYS has spent a long time talking to oenologists, wine producers, filtration service providers and oenological product suppliers to identify their main concerns regarding filter aid filtration.

Until recently there has been very little innovation for filter aid filtration for wine and juice.

To resolve this, Imerys has developed ImerVin Efficace, an engineered filter aid designed for optimised rotary vacuum filtration of wine musts, especially the difficult to filter musts from thermo-vinification.

IMERYS has also produced two bespoke perlite-based filter aids; ImerVin™ 800 and ImerVin™ 1200S, designed as high efficacy perlites engineered to give higher filtration capacity, but using lower powder dosing rates.

Application Specific Benefits

  • Increased capacity requirements – ability to filter more juice during each filtration
  • Reduction in powder dosing – more efficient ability of the filter aid to “trap” must solids means lower dosing rates possible
  • Less juice losses in the spent filter cake – leading to increased juice being fermented
  • Less spent filter cake – lower powder dosing rates and less juice losses means less spent filter cake to be disposed of at the end of filtration
