Imerys DE Below U.S. Guidelines for Arsenic and Designated “Safe” by U.S. Food and Drug Administration

April 19, 2013
San Jose, California

Imerys brand diatomaceous earth (DE) products (Celite®, Kenite®, and Primisil, among others) comply with the purity and current Good Manufacturing Practices requirements of U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention’s Food Chemicals Codex (FCC) for DE.* The FCC standards include limits on soluble arsenic. Imerys DE products comply with this limit and, in routine testing, typically fall well below the limit. Customers who use Imerys DE as a processing aid invariably find arsenic in much lower quantities in their products than the limits specified by the FCC.

DE products have been widely used, safely and effectively, in food production for many years. Celite® products, for example have been used in food production since at least 1912. All Imerys DE products are classified as Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Please visit the FDA website for additional information on the safety of Imerys’ DE products FDA
